A thoughtfully designed residence, balancing daily living and casual use on two levels on a rectangular lot.

Designing with the proportions of a lot

Campestre is a residential house located in San Ángel Inn, in the southern part of Mexico City. It has approximately 325m2 of construction spread over two levels. The lot of the house has a rectangular proportion with dimensions of 11m wide by 33m long. The design of the house was precisely determined by the rectangular proportions of the lot. The construction area was distributed around two internal courtyards, which separate the private areas from the common areas.

The construction area represents only one-third of the total land area. As a stipulated requirement, the house was designed to be fully inhabitable on the ground floor. Therefore, all the main spaces are located downstairs. The floor plan was shaped like a “T”, with all the common areas surrounding the first courtyard. The hallway, living room, dining room, and kitchen constitute this first division of the house, while the private spaces such as the master bedroom are located behind the second division. While the second floor was designated for rooms and areas that would be used occasionally or by visitors to the house.
