An architecture designed to maximize openings and outdoor spaces within a confined plot to provide a sense of spaciousness.
Creating views and outdoor spaces on a regular lot
Diego Rivera is a residential project located in the San Ángel area, in the south of Mexico City, on a regular plot of land measuring 10x20m. Due to the dimensions of the site, the main intention of the project was to increase perspective and the sensation of outdoor space.
To achieve this, we proposed a courtyard running along the length of the plot with one side on a diagonal, which not only enhances perspective but also provides additional footprint area, creating a greater perception of space. This sense of openness is emphasized on the ground floor, where a large window integrates the dining area and living room with the outdoor space.
The proposed material for the patio floor is washed concrete with white marble gravel, cast in place to create larger panels. This creates a greater sense of spaciousness and allows for the reflection of light. The upper floor features another diagonal that marks the entrance, accentuates the access to the courtyard, and provides a covered entrance to the house.
